Privacy notice
Last updated 4 September 2026
Ranked Africa is a product owned and operated by Asterline Technologies Limited, a Nigerian private company limited by shares (RC 9767506). Asterline Technologies Limited is the data controller responsible for determining how and why personal data is processed across the Ranked Africa marketing website and competitive gaming service. This notice explains what we process, why we process it, when information becomes public or is shared, and the choices available to you under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other applicable requirements.
Our privacy principles
We aim to process personal data lawfully, fairly and transparently; collect it for clear purposes; limit it to what is reasonably necessary; keep it accurate and secure; and retain it only for as long as its purpose or an applicable obligation requires.
Information we process
- Account information: name, email address, verification state and accepted policy versions.
- Competitive identity: display name, gamertag, game, platform, online ID, avatar, broad location and profile preferences.
- Competition records: challenges, fixtures, scores, RP, rankings, rivalries, teams, Circles, streams and career achievements.
- Evidence and communications: screenshots or clips, notes, disputes, support requests and messages attached to competitive activity.
- Operational information: request identifiers, timestamps, IP address, device/browser information, security events and audit records.
- Preferences and consent records: visibility choices, communication preferences, opportunity interests and records of consent or withdrawal.
Do not send passwords, government identification, payment information or personal data that is unnecessary for the service unless we expressly request it through a secure process.
Why we process information
- To create and secure accounts and gaming identities.
- To arrange matches, verify results, calculate RP and publish eligible competitive records.
- To operate teams, Circles, competitions, notifications and player-support workflows.
- To investigate disputes, abuse, technical failures and integrity concerns.
- To improve reliability, measure product use and develop new competition services.
- To help players discover relevant competitions, teams, recognition and professional opportunities.
- To send direct marketing only where the required consent has been obtained.
- To comply with legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of players and the service.
Depending on the activity, processing may rely on performance of the service you requested, your consent, our legitimate interests or a legal obligation. Where consent is required, you can withhold it or withdraw it for future processing without losing access to unrelated core features.
What becomes public
Subject to available visibility controls, Ranked Africa may publish your display name, gamertag, avatar, broad location, game identity, rankings, RP, verified results, team participation, streams and approved career achievements. Public information can be viewed, linked to or referenced by other players, organisers, teams, media, sponsors, scouts and members of the public.
We do not make your email address, private platform identifier, raw evidence, private messages, review notes, security records or operator identity public.
Who we share information with
We may disclose information to the following categories of recipients for the stated purposes:
- Service providers that support hosting, storage, security, email, analytics, support and other operations. They may process information only for the services they provide to us and under appropriate contractual or confidentiality controls.
- Players, teams, Circles and organisers where information is needed to arrange or administer a match, roster, competition, result, dispute or record.
- Esports, media and commercial partners where we share public competitive information, aggregated insights, or non-public information for a specific opportunity after obtaining any consent required by law.
- Professional advisers and authorities where reasonably necessary to obtain advice, comply with law, enforce our terms, investigate wrongdoing, or protect a person or the service.
- A successor or transaction participant in connection with a proposed investment, financing, reorganisation, acquisition or transfer of all or part of the service, subject to confidentiality and applicable legal safeguards.
- Another recipient you direct us to or specifically authorise.
Current infrastructure and delivery providers include Railway for application hosting, Cloudflare for private object storage, Resend for email delivery, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications, OtaKit for eligible mobile web-bundle updates, and Vercel for the public marketing website. A consent-gated TikTok measurement script may operate only after a paid-campaign visitor chooses to allow it. Provider roles may change as the service develops; we remain responsible for ensuring that the notice and required controls reflect the processing actually in use.
Player opportunities and commercial use
Ranked Africa may use public competitive records to identify or feature players who appear relevant to a tournament, team, sponsorship, media, scouting or similar opportunity. We may share a public profile or public competitive facts without exposing private account information.
We will not provide a player’s non-public contact details to a sponsor, scout, advertiser or other commercial third party merely because that party is willing to pay for access. We will first obtain the player’s direction or the specific consent required for that opportunity. Withdrawing consent stops future consent-based sharing but does not undo a disclosure already made lawfully.
Aggregated and de-identified insights
We may create and use statistics, reports and insights that do not reasonably identify an individual—for example, participation trends by game or region, match activity, platform demand and competition performance. We may share or license those insights to organisers, teams, sponsors, researchers or other partners. We take reasonable steps to reduce re-identification risk and do not represent de-identified information as anonymous where it can still reasonably be linked to a person.
International processing
Some service providers or recipients may process information outside Nigeria. Where a cross-border transfer is restricted, we use an available legal transfer mechanism and obtain consent when it is specifically required.
Evidence, retention and account deletion
Evidence is private and used for result review, dispute resolution, integrity and audit. We retain information only while reasonably necessary for its stated purpose, the service relationship or an applicable obligation. When you delete your account, Ranked Africa immediately signs out your devices and removes or anonymises direct account identifiers and public-profile information. The anonymised account record is permanently purged after a limited retention period, currently 30 days. Competitive ledger entries may remain in anonymised or de-identified form where erasure would otherwise corrupt another player’s verified history or an integrity record we are permitted or required to retain. Private evidence, messages, dispute material, security records or audit records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve an active matter, prevent fraud, establish or defend legal claims, or meet an applicable obligation; access remains restricted and the information is removed or de-identified when that purpose ends.
You can delete your account inside the app under Profile → Settings → Account & privacy, or use our public account-deletion page if you cannot sign in.
Age restriction
Ranked Africa is for adults aged 18 or older. We do not permit people under 18 to create or use an account and do not knowingly process children’s personal data through the player service. If you believe a person under 18 has created an account, email privacy@rankedafrica.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Security
We use access controls, private storage, encryption in transit, audit records and restricted operator surfaces. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account or information has been compromised, contact us promptly.
Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to be informed; access and correct your data; object to or restrict processing; withdraw consent; request portability or erasure; request human review of a qualifying automated decision; and lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
To exercise a privacy right, email privacy@rankedafrica.com. We may need to verify that the request concerns your account before disclosing or changing information. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
Cookies and analytics
This marketing website does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The authenticated application uses essential session and security mechanisms required to provide the service. Optional analytics, advertising or marketing technologies will be enabled only with the notices and consent controls required for their use.
Changes
We may update this notice as Ranked Africa develops. Material changes will be reflected by the date above and communicated where required. If a new use is incompatible with the purpose for which information was collected, we will provide an additional notice and obtain consent where required before that use begins.
